HOMEWORK HAVEN: Homework Haven takes place daily during the school year. Morning sessions begin at 7:30am under the direction of Mrs. Cindy Berard and after school sessions, under the direction of Mrs. Joyce Brouillard, are from 2:45-3:15pm.
BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION:We continue to collect Box Tops for Education, along with Campbells soup labels and empty printer cartridges.
TECHNOLOGY IMPROVEMENTS: We are pleased to announce that all classroom computers are now connected to the internet. A special thank you to parent technician, Mr. Silva, for his hours of work in our school. These computers are in addition to our updated 31 IBM computer student lab.
Two new portable computer/LCD projectors for grades 3-4-5,6 and a new smart board for all grades is now available for teacher use. This is in addition to three portable computer/LCD projectors available to grades 6-7-8.
Three new flat screen televisions, new VHS/DVD player/recorders, new overhead projectors, a computerized microscope camera, a computerized enlargement camera,two digital cameras, a new classroom interactive white board, a portable classroom smart board and new CD players have recently been acquired.
CURRICULUM REVIEW: Teachers have revised the Social Studies and Mathematics curriculum for the 2010-2011 school year. New grade 7 and 8 Social Studies textbooks are now in use along with new math books for grades 3-4and 5. Committee work is now taking place to revise our science curriculum.
RESH INC. DONATIONS TO GOOD SHEPHERD: Again we are pleased to announce Scott Langley of RESH INC. made a generous donation of $5,000 to our school on March 28. During a tour of our school both Mr. Langley and his partner Mr. Saltzberg were very pleased to see how past donations have been used throughout the building.The most recent funds will be applied to technology updates as well as infrastructure improvements. A special thank you to RESH INC. from our Good Shepherd Catholic School Community and St. Joseph Parish. So far this school year the boys and girls lavatories have been given a fresh coat of paint as well as the Music and Art rooms. Also 8 classrooms have been repainted. Classroom painting will continue throughout the school year and summer. In addition we have installed air conditioning in the Computer Lab.
FOUR NEW SCHOOL YARD BASKETBALL HOOPS: Thanks to a donation by Scott Langley of Resh Inc., Franklin, all four outside basketball hoops have been replaced! Check them out! They were custom made and professionally installed. We understand the Celtics are eying them for practices! A very special thank you to Mr. Langley and Resh Inc.!!
Catholic Athletic League Soccer for grades 6-7-8 has begun under the direction of parent Mr. Medeiros and Mr. Marquis on Mondays from 6:00-7:00pm.
Catholic Athletic League Volleyball takes place on Wednesdays with volunteer coach Mr. Wayne Poitras and Mr. Boucher on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00pm.
Saturday volleyball for boys and girls in grades 4-8 takes place from 1:30-3:00pm under the supervision of Mr. Gould.
Mrs. Chudy has reorganized her 45 voice choir including students in grades 4-8.The choir will be singing at all Masses and special celebrations. Rehearsals are generally held after school on alternating Tuesdays until 3:45pm.
Our Good Shepherd School Band is currently rehearsing on Wednesdays and Thursday from 2:45-4:15 under the direction of Mr. Gregory.
The Game Club is underway every Friday afternoon from 2:45-3:45 in the cafeteria's Game Korner. Students in grades 3-8 are invited to play air hockey, foosball, checkers, monopoly and dozens of various board games under the direction of Mr. Poitras. The Game Club will end on April 15, after ten weeks of activities!
Our school library is open before and after school, Monday through Thursday, under the direction of Mrs. Brouliiard.
MONDAY AFTERNOON BOWLING has been completed . Mrs. Medeiros, our art teacher and parent, volunteered to host the after school activity. A total of 37 bowlers, grades 3-8 participated at Walnut Hill Bowl!
PEP SQUAD- Thank you to parent Mrs. Montague who organized a girls Pep Squad , grades 5-8. They provided great school spirit at our basketball home games!!
NEW ACTIVITIES KORNER- Soccer tables and other activity tables have been set up in the cafeteria. Students have enjoyed the Korner, especially on rainy days! We continue to look for soccer and air hockey tables in good condition.We also will take any board games in good condition!!!
STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS- Our new Students Council for the 2010-2011 school year includes: Grade 3: Lauren McGuirk, Marissa Tessier, Hannah Moyen, Ryan McGrath; Grade 4: Katherine Champagne, Abigail Goncalves; Grade 5: Aisley Keating, Maggie Bouckaert; Grade 6: Alannah Plasse, Abram Gregory, Tyler Croteau, Grace Boyle; Grade 7: Sangeeth Jetty, Leonelle Kelley; Grade 8: Bianca Corriveau, Mykayla Jackson, Alyson Picard and Bailey Duarte. Officers for 2010-2011 include Abram Gregory and Bailey Duarte, co-presidents; Alyson Picard and Maggie Bouckaert, co-secretaries; and Katherine Champagne, prayer leader.
A GOOD DEED INDEED- A special thank you to the following girls who helped prepare 1,000 packets for St. Joseph Parish's Evangelization Program: Molly Berard, Kayla Nault, Julie Aridano, Tara Biernacki, Kayla Medeiros, Jessica Paquette and Bethany Boucher. All the work was completed before school over a two week period.
Also a big thank you to the following students who volunteered their services at the recent Milk Fund Breakfast at Club Par-X: Bethany Boucher, Mykayla Jackson, Bianca Corriveau, Gabrielle Bergeron, Marissa Piedmonte, Elizabeth Montague, Renee Brien, Hope Simas, Abigail Boisvert, and Kyle Aubin.
ANNUAL MAGAZINE SUBSCRIPTION FUNDRAISER - Congratulations to our top sellers: Julia Kaplan,grade 6; Kaitlyn Koller, grade 5 and Matthew Medeiros, grade 7. Top three classrooms: Mrs. Dubois, grade 3; Mr. Jones, grade 6; and Mrs. Berard, grade 6. Thank you for your support!!
PIE SALES TOP SELLERS-Congratulations to Elizabeth Montagne, grade 7, for selling $271 worth of pies and Ryen Lamoureux, grade 3, for selling $264 worth of pies! Job well done! Mrs. Laroche's third grade class was tops in per capita sales!
JEANS FOR HAITI-WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29- Students, faculty and staff were asked to donate $2.00 to dress down today for Sister Vivian Patenaude's missionary work in Haiti. Sister Vivian is a Woonsocket native and served as principal of the Woonsocket Catholic Regional Junior High on Gaulin Avenue during the 1970's.A check for $400 has been forwarded to Sister Vivian.
CLOTHING DRIVE- SEPTEMBER 29-OCTOBER 15- Our Student Council coordinated a Clothing Drive to benefit the Coats of Many Color Program which is headquartered at St. James Episcopal Church on Hamlet Avenue, Woonsocket. We collected good clean clothing for all seasons and in all sizes- infants to adults. Close to 6,000 pieces of clothing were collected.
ANNUAL FEINSTEIN THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE-OCT. 25-NOV. 19 Our Student Council sponsored a food drive to support the St. Joseph Church Food Cupboard. A total of 2,000 food items were turned over to the Cupboard. Mr. Feinstein presented us with a check for $2,000 for our "good deeds".
JEANS FOR PRO- LIFE- OCTOBER 26- This is our annual Jeans Day to help support the Pro-Life America Billboard Program. Students, faculty and staff were invited to donate $2.00 to dress down. A donation of $300 was forwarded to Pro-Life America.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR- Our Good Shepherd PTO sponsored our annual Fall Book Fair. Thank you for our support. A special thank you to Mrs. Cote, coordinator, and all her volunteers!
MR. ALAN SHAWN FEINSTEIN VISITS-Rhode Island's best known philanthropist and promoter of good deeds stopped in on November 22 and presented our school with a check for $5,000. He praised our students for their numerous good deeds!
JEANS FOR "BECAUSE HE LIVES"-TUESDAY- NOVEMBER 23- Our annual Jeans Day to help support Woonsocket's Food Kitchen located at the First Baptist Church on Blackstone Street,Woonsocket resulted in our sending a $350 donation. Thank you for your support.
ST.JUDE'S LOOSE CHANGE COLLECTION: NOVEMBER 29-DECEMBER 17-Once again we cleaned out our piggy banks and collected loose change for the children of St. Jude's Childrens Hospital in Memphis, Tennesse. Maybe some parents remember when our school sold lollipops for St. Jude's Hospital back in the 70's,80's and 90's- now we collect loose change!! A check for $2516.00 was forwarded to St. Jude's Hospital.
NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC GEOGRAPHY BEE- Congratulations to fifth grader Andrew Larivee, our finalist, who represented us in the state competition. Sixth grader Abram Gregory came in second place. Other finalists included: Ryan Senior, William Vescera, Adam Guilbert, Thomas Marcet and Marissa Piedmonte.
PEER TUTORING - Students from the upper grades, along with graduates, are offering their services after school on Wednesdays and Fridays to students from 2:45-3:40. Permission slips for students in grades 3-8 are available in the office. Peer Tutoring continues until the end of May.
JEANS DAY- TUESDAY, JANUARY 25- This month we accepted donations for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Thank you for your support. A check for $300 has been forwarded.
LOCK-IN FOR SCHOLARSHIPS-FEBRUARY 4- A special thank you to our PTO and the numerous volunteers who made this year's "Lock -In "a tremendous success. From the pasta dinner to the countless activities made for a great evening. $4,066 was collected in pledges and placed in our Good Shepherd Scholarship Account. The top homeroom for participation was Mr. Jone's sixth grade class. Top sponsored students included Kelsey Bousquet,grade 5; Kelsey Nichols, grade 3; and Caitlyn Pacheco, grade 8. A total of 127 students participated!!
JEANS DAY FOR FATHER MAROT C.Y.O. CENTER- THURSDAY, ST. PATRICK'S DAY- MARCH 17- We forwarded a check for $410 to the center!
CANDY AND COOKIE DRIVE-Congratulations to Mr. Jones' sixth graders for being top homeroom in sales! Top student sellers were Michael McCutcheon, grade 4, and Ali Girard, grade 7. Thank you for your continued support of our GWCRS fundraisers.
FEINSTEIN LENTEN FOOD DRIVE - Proceeds benefitted the St. Joseph Food Cupboard. Thank you for your generosity. 2,000 food items were turned over to the parish cupboard.
JEANS DAY-APRIL 26- Proceeds benefitted our Good Shepherd Scholarship Program. $500 was colelcted! Thank you!!
SEVENTH GRADE FIELD TRIP TO LEXINGTON- APRIL 27-Seventh graders spent the day in Lexington.
TALENT SHOW -APRIL 28-Join us for an evening of great entertainment from 6:30-8:00pm in the auditorium. A total of 21 acts will be presented! Admission is $3.00.

PRAYER SERVICE- APRIL 29- Our seventh graders will be presenting our monthly Prayer Service for the school at 8:30am.
MAY CROWNING OF MARY- MAY 3- Join us for what has become a beautiful tradition at our school. The procession begins at 1:15pm in St. Joseph Church with Father Woolley officiating and concludes in the field with the crowning of Blessed Mary by a special eighth grader.
LEARNING FAIR 2011- 5:30-7:00PM- Our gymnasium will be filled with projects completed by our students in grades 4-8.
ANNUAL WALK-A-THON- MAY 11- This annual GWCRS fund raiser involves all of our students- it is a great fun day for all. Please join us! (RAIN DATE MAY 12)

ANNUAL DRAMA AND FINE ARTS NIGHT- MAY 18- Join our Choir,Band, Drama Club, and third graders as they entertain us beginning at 6:30pm. Also students art work, grades 3-8, will be displayed.

GRADE 4 WALKING TOUR OF HISTORIC WOONSOCKET-MAY 24-Parents are invited to join the fourth graders as Mr. Poitras, school principal, walks around Woonsocket pointing out Woonsocket's proud historic past. We will begin the walk at Good Shepherd at 8:30am and return to Good Shepherd by bus around 2:00pm.

GRADE 8 WALKING TOUR OF HISTORIC WOONSCKET- MAY 31- Once again, Mr. Poitras, principal, puts on his walking shoes and this time leads the eighth graders around town checking out the city's proud historic past. We will be bussed across town to the Friends Meeting House around 8:30am and bussed back to Good Shepherd around 2:00pm. Parents are invited to join us!!
